The Jacksons

It all started in the 1930s with two Jackson brothers, Roy and George as they started fishing out of Nanticoke with a small boat. In 1936 they decided to expand their operation and have a small steel tug built, and in 1937 when the boat was launched it bore the name "Noskca J" (Jackson spelt backwards). They later decided to build a larger tug boat, which had some delay in having the boat completed and eventually launched, it was then named "The Long Time" and the "Noskca J" was then sold and has now been converted into a pleasure boat.

In 1963, George had the G.W. Jackson built. The G.W. is a twin diesel vessel, one of very few fish tugs ever powered with two engines.                        George had two sons, Larry and Ed and in 1975, the owner of L.R. Jackson Fisheries Larry Jackson moved his fishery from Port Dover to Port Stanley... literally! An old twine shanty was loaded up on a barge and had been towed to Port Stanley, and now can be seen as a residence across the street from the fish market.

In 1976, Larry opened his processing facility in Port Stanley, Jacksons Fish Market. His wife Bonnie, who did everything but steer a boat, has helped Larry over the years and are still heavily involved in the family business. In 1979, the Jacksons had purchased a building down the street from the fish market, the restaurant previously known as "Jacksons Wharf" that offered fresh fish with a breathtaking view of the harbour.

1982, the year that the L.R. Jackson was constructed by Kanter Yachts. The L.R. is the largest tug to have been built in Port Stanley, and she still remains as one of the largest fish tugs on the Great Lakes.

Now, Larry's son, Joe Jackson operates his grandpa George's boat, the G.W. Jackson while his wife Tammy processes Joes fresh fish daily on site at Jacksons Fish Market for local restaurants as well as retail.
